AT&T to offer 3G OpenTablet touchscreen computer

Today AT&T announced that, through a partnership with OpenPeak Inc., it will offer the OpenTablet, a touchscreen tablet. The device will run on AT&T's 3G network.

The 228.6mm x 127mm x 15mm (9in x 5in x .59in) device also supports 802.11b/g/n WiFi connections, runs on an Intel Atom processor, and has a 6-inch LED backlit display. The computer appears to have a proprietary operating system, and includes HDMI-out and a microSD card slot as well.

AT&T hasn't gone into specifics, but it appears the device is "based on" the Open Tablet 7 tablet, also created by OpenPeak Inc.

AT&T hopes owners use the device to access social networks, navigate, download books, and access email and multimedia. AT&T says it will also support home security systems and energy consumption management tools. The device will have an "App Shop" for installing other apps.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but AT&T expects it will be available in late 2010.
